Hi! I’ve been working on a maiko (apprentice geisha or geiko, as they are called in Kyoto) illustration for another project I’ve been working on (no, in essence it does not have much to do with Japan), that I am planning to post about quite soon, and I just really wanted to share my progress, since this is the first time I’ve illustrated a person relatively succesfully. I was inspired by this old postcard, but I’m sure all the things I changed or added are not entirely in line with what in reality would be appropriate to wear for that particular season (I think the ensemble in the picture would have been worn in late autumn, but I could definitely be wrong). Anyway, that’s all for now, feedback is always welcome!

I think its awesome! I love that you even did the shoes correctly…this is a very nice representation.
Thank you that’s reassuring to hear! =)
It’s absolutely lovely!
Thank you!
In the book “Memoirs of a Geisha” (not the movie) there are very inspiring descriptions of the clothes by seasons. You should go check it.
Good luck!
Thanks! I’ve actually already read the novel, but perhaps I should indeed re-read it to refresh my memory!
